Match Report
After five months of no matches, finally the brown and white shirts had the cobwebs dusted off, and a few new additions to wear them. Mo White, Joe Weller and Dave Marsh made their debuts for Electricity, with five other debutants making appearances from the bench. As you would expect, it took the lads a few minutes to get into their stride, and the first chance fell to Habeeb Alli-Owe whose shot went the wrong side of the post. He made no mistake with his next chance on the quarter hour mark as he kept his composure to give Electricity the lead. This sparked Villa into life and after pressure from consecutive corners, they equalised after a through ball was neatly finished by the Villa forward. The scores werent level for long, as ten minutes later Electricity regained the lead when White marked his debut with a well-taken goal that went in off the post to give Leccy a half time lead. Having made changes during the first 45 minutes, there were more subs to be made at the break, which led to a change in formation halfway through the second half from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2. This change came after Electricity added two more to their tally, with Alli-Owe getting both of them to complete his hatrick. The first came after some great individual play and another bottom corner finish, with the second coming moments later, springing the offside trap to ease the ball home. Montpelier scored a consolation to reduce the deficit but all in all, a strong performance in which the total could have easily been added to and it will give us confidence to go into the first match of the season, which is against Villa, knowing we can win. And all without John...!

Match Report
A new season and a new look Brighton Electricity with 5 summer signings making their competitive debuts, at undoubtedly one of the hardest places to visit in the league. Electricity took little time to settle though, and immediatly started on the front foot stroking the ball around nicely on a near perfect pitch albeit creating few chances. When the first chance did come, it fell to Chris Adams who, in his first appearance for Leccy, blazed his shot narrowly over the bar after good work from John Peter. Another newcomer almost opened the scoring in Joe Weller, when his 20 yard volley was tipped round the post by the Villa keeper. With the hosts always looking dangerous on the counter attack, it was them who opened the scoring against the run of play. A shot was blocked on the edge of the area, but it fell straight the Villa forward who showed good composure to curl the ball into the top corner and the home side went in at the break ahead. Going in at half-time disappointed to be behind, Electricity raced out of the traps in the second period, dominating possesion for the first fifteen minutes of the half with Tope Ajala-Agbo pulling all the strings. Peter, who was also at the forefront of most of Electricity's attacks, had a good shot well saved by the home keeper, which was followed by a Dave Marsh strike that whistled just wide of the post. The reward for the hard work did come just past the hour mark, when Adams challenged the keeper, who spilt the cross and Ajala-Agbo was on hand to ease the ball into an empty net. This sprung the home side into action and they upped the tempo to try and force a winner, but Electricity weren't settling for a draw either. As a consequence, the remainder of the match was played at a frantic pace, as both teams searched for the illusive goal. John Peter went close again with a long range effort which the keeper again did well to tip wide and in the dying minutes there was a final chance for the home side when a low cross was met by the Villa attacker, but Matt Evans did well to save with his legs. But in the end both defences held out for the draw with Leishman and Voice well marshalled by Carney at the back for Electricity, and although having most of the possesion Electricity will be happy to come away from one of the league favourites with a well deserved point

 Ovingdean
Match Report
With Electricity knowing that a win would take them into at least second place in the table, an unchanged side took the field and gave an impressive display to condemn Ovingdean to their third straight defeat. It was the visitors who started brighter however and they could have taken an early lead when a dangerous ball was played across the area but a combination of centre back Luke Leishman and goalkeeper Matt Evans got the ball to safety. Once Electricity did get into their stride though, there was no stopping them. Three goals in fifteen first half minutes effectively sealed the game for the home side with Joe Weller netting the first on eleven minutes. Neat interchange between Chris Adams and Dave Marsh put Weller through and he slotted the ball past the onrushing keeper. Five minutes later and Weller doubled his tally when Habeeb Alli-Owe laid the ball off to the midfielder whos left footed rocket flew into the top corner. The third came midway through the half when Adams had his ankles clipped in the area and the referee awarded a penalty which John Peter converted for his first of the season. With Adams and Alli-Owe terrorising the visitors defence, they couldnt handle the pace of some of the Electricity football with Murray and Marsh always dangerous on each wing. The frustration of this came out on the half hour mark, when a rash challenge on Marsh saw a second bookable offence for the Ovingdean player and it was even more of an uphill challenge for the visitors. There was still time for one more goal in the first half when a low cross from Murray was forced in by Adams and Electricity went in at the break with an unassailable lead.
More of the same was the order of the half and the home side didnt have to wait too long for a fifth. A Dave Marsh cross found the head of Habeeb Alli-Owe, whose header was initially saved, but Alli-Owe was there to pounce onto the loose ball to get his first of the season. With the game safe, there was now an opportunity for tinkerman Carney to make some substitutions and try some players in different positions. Winger Joe De Freitas replaced Ryan Murray and within a couple of minutes the former had set up Peter for his second of the match. De Freitas' whipped corner was met by the skillful Nigerian who headed powerfully from six yards out. The introduction of Nic Eadie and debutant Mo White for Adams and Marsh respectively kept the high tempo up, and although some of the slick passing from the first half had gone, the hosts were still dominant. The change also meant that John Peter was pushed up front and this gave him the chance for his hatrick. He took the chance when he picked up the ball on the edge of the area, went past two players and fired the ball into the roof of the net to make it 7. Not to be outdone, Weller was desperate to match his team-mate in getting a hatrick, so when a good run by De Freitas was cut short by a poorly executed tackle from the keeper, there was only going to be one person to take the penalty and Weller duly abliged. The celebrations were short-lived however, when minutes later the midfielder landed awkwardly on his foot and subsequently broke his metatarsal and will be out for at least two months. All that was left to do was for Ovingdean to get a consolation goal, after substitute Mo White was adjudged to have pushed the opposing player in the back, and despite the best attempts of Matt Evans in goal, the third penalty of the match went in and Electricity's clean sheet was gone. But nevertheless, a convincing victory which will put us in good stead for the next match, which is also at home, as we push for another 3 points

Match Report
The first match of the season at our home ground of Braypool, and the tails were up in the Electricity camp after last weeks demolition of Ovingdean. A couple of changes were made to the starting XI with Mo White and Nic Eadie replacing the injured Joe Weller and unavailable John Peter in central midfield. There was always a chance of complaicency creeping into the minds of the home side, but a good start put pay to that idea. Ryan Murray had a half chance within thirty seconds, when a Chris Adams looped cross just evaded Murray's outstretched leg. The tenacious midfield of White, Eadie and Ajala-Agbo were playing at a high tempo, getting in the faces of the opposition and giving them no time on the ball, and this was what brought about the first goal of the afternoon. A misplaced pass from the Portslade midfielder found Adams once again, who laid the ball off to White, who in turn chipped the ball over the visiting defence into Habeeb Alli-Owe's path, and the 23-year-old made no mistake with the finish into the bottom corner. With the 1-0 advantage, Electricity decided to take their foot of the gas, and the passing and movement became sloppy. Countless free kicks were given away by the hosts, which gave Athletic opportunities to put their opponents under pressure. Just a minute after the lead was taken, there could have been an equaliser when a free kick was floated in, but luckily the header was straight at Matt Evans, who dealt with it well. There was another scare for Electricity five minutes later when the visiting attacker broke the offside trap, but he got the finish all wrong, screwing it well wide. The remainder of the first half was scrappy with neither team getting their foot on the ball and spraying it about, and a few half chances were created for both team but neither team increased the scoring.
For the second half, Leccy had the slope to their advantage, but there was still little quality shown from each side. Most of the half was played in the Portslade half however when the visitors broke, they looked dangerous. The defence of Carney, Leishman and Voice had to be on their toes throughout the half, and the one time the opposition did break their shackles, Evans was on hand to tip a low shot round the post. As the match moved into the final 20 minutes, the gaps began to open, with Nic Eadie getting himself in good positions on the edge of the area, but not quite executing his shot right to test the keeper. Adams and Alli-Owe were once again their busy selves up front, and the former had a great chance to extend the lead when he was put through by the latter, but his shot went just the wrong side of the post. A couple of minutes later however, Adams did make the game safe when a long kick upfield was flicked on by Alli-Owe, and Adams got himself in the position to tuck the ball past the keeper and Electricity could breathe a little easier. Substitutions were made after this, with the introduction of Joe De Freitas, Luke Bonwick (who was making his debut) and James Oldfield, and with Portslade really pushing forward, this meant there were definitely going to be chances to increase the lead. And it was the two substitutes who were looking for another goal, when De Freitas played through Bonwick, whos cross-shot found Adams, but his shot was well saved. In the last minute there was one last chance for the visitors to get a consolation goal, but a free kick from just outside the box, was made to look easy by the impressive Matt Evans in goal. So on the back of an unbeaten start to the season, Electricity will host early table-toppers American Express next week in what should prove to be a tough match, to see who will lead the pile after the first month.
